Mission Statement

The Seattle Value Units (SeaVU) System is a solution to scarcity, inequality and global dependence. Our mission is to support a vibrant local ecomomy and a strong community network. We are committed to public accountability, inclusivity, and personal respect.

SeaVU Board of Directors

Michael J. Coffey, Business Members Director & Acting President
Initially interested in the "one man's trash is another man's treasure" phenomenon, Michael began researching barter systems and community currencies in the late 1990s. Since then he's also been involved in teaching workshops on voluntary simplicity, personal finances, local economics, and other money and environmental issues.

Ross Krzysko, Individual Members Director & Acting Secretary
Ross worked in the recycling and reclamation industry for many years on the east coast until moving to Seattle where a friend sparked his interest in building community. He volunteered as a steering team member for a communities conference called Co-Opportunities Northwest. Ross met Michael Coffey at the first sign up session for a previous incarnation of the community currency system called Local Exchange Trading System.

Jenny Heins, Operations Director & Acting Treasurer
Jenny joined the SeaVU community on the heels of Bush's second term election. Disheartened by the direction the federal government was taking us, she was looking for a way to use her skills and energy in her community and keep her wealth focused locally. Jenny has been a local small business owner for many years, and has a background in environmental and social research. She also currently serves on the steering committee for Sustainable Ballard.
